Independent and prepared to the end, she wrote the draft for her obituary. Marion was born on June 5, 1917, in Jamaica, Vt., to Ruth (Dutton) and Tennie Coleman. She graduated from Brattleboro High School in 1935 and The University of Vermont in 1939, where she was elected to the Phi Beta Kappa Society in her junior year.
