    • Son of Joseph B and Huldah Castle

      William mustered in as a Private in Company H of the 9th Vermont Regiment on December 30,1863. He transferred to Company C in June, 1865, and mustered out December 1, 1865.

      On January 23, 1839, William married Polly Dutton in Leicester, Vermont.

      After Polly passed away, William married Sarah Howard (Mrs. Sarah R. Prouty) on October 25, 1876, in Jamaica.

      William married Cynthia C. Cudworth on May 2, 1884 in Jamaica.

      Death announcement and obituary, Vermont Phœnix, January 15, 1904. William's obituary states that he was one of the oldest residents of Jamaica, and was survived by a wife and five children. [7]
