    • Sarah Ann Alger was born in Nauvoo, Hancock, Illinois, the daughter of John & Sarah Ann Alger Pulsipher. She married William Edward Cowley 11 Jan 1863 in Beaver, Utah. They were the parents of twelve children: William Elroy, Lafayette, Adella, John Mathias, Charles Zera, Don Carlos, Adliza, Andrew Bird, Joseph Alger, Samuel Nelson, Raymond Edgar & Claude Quayle Cowley.
      She was among the early Mormon pioneers of Utah, her family helped establish southern Utah, Clover Valley, Pine Valley and St. George, as well as toiling at Windsor Castle, AZ. She and William and their family moved to Castle Valley,Emery county ,Utah (his daughter Adella said "Father had the wanderlust, and after the death of President Young he decided tl leave the hard life of the Dixie Mission" after returning home to St. George she went on "Father was never satisfied, he thought there were better opportunities for his large family of boys in Castle Valley")
      Sarah's husband William was murdered in 1901 in Helper,Utah and Sarah spent the remainder of her life in this area, living for a time in Sunnyside,then returning to Cleveland. Sarah died 14 Feb 1933 in Cleveland.

      SARAH ANN COWLEY

      CLEVELAND-Mrs. Sarah Ann Cowley, 87, Utah pioneer of 1848, died at her home here Tuesday of ailments incident to age.

      Mrs. Cowley was born in Nauvoo, Ill., April 13, 1845, a daughter of John and Sarah Pulsipher Alger. The family left that city the following year, during the Mormon exodus, and lived in Winter Quarters, Neb., nearly two years before corssing the plains to Utah. The family was called by Brigham Young to help settle southern Utah in 1856.

      Mrs. Cowley married William E. Cowley on January 11, 1863 in Beaver. They then moved to St. George in 1864 and remained there until 18??, when they were called to settle Emery county, where Mrs. Cowley spent the remainder of her life. [3]
