  • Notes
    • Samuel Aaron served with distinction as lieutenant in the Civil War at the Battle of Drury's Bluff, near Ft. Darling VA. He was shot through the back part of his left leg below the knee joint disabling him entirely from manual labor. He wrote in a letter to his niece Mrs. Louis Orcutt Jaques the following account, "We lost a little more than one-third of our regiment in about fifteen minutes, but we held the Johnies back until the 10th and 18th Army Corps had made a new formation in a stronger position and so prevented an utter rout of our army; ut it cost us a terrible loss. Sergeant Gray, and Corporal Latham ran back and carried me back about a quarter of a mile, and put me in an ambulance and Dr. Lee bound up the wound. I nearly bled to death. A few hours later dear Corporal Latham was killed."
He married Margaret Shoemaker at St. Pauls Church Oct 21, 1869 in Cedar City. They had the following children:
Charles Arthur, Elizabeth Elanor, William Boardman, Horatio Nelson, Frank, Margaret Mabel, Florence, Gilbert Samuel, and Lloyd Lincoln. The last two sons served in the military, Gilbert in the Navy and Lloyd in the U.S. Army.
Samuel Aaron died as a result of mitral insufficiency.
