Death of a Pioneer Resident
The News learned just before going to press, from Mr. S.M. Augustine of San Rafael, that Warren Dutton, one of Marin's best known and respected citizens passed away today (Friday) at Dutton's Landing in Solano county. The funeral will take place at Tomales. Mr. Dutton was stricken about a year ago with paralysis, which, no doubt, was finally the cause of his death. He came to Marin county in 1852. he has on several occasions held responsible offices in this State, and no man ever proved more faithful to his trusts. One of God's noblemen has gone to his reward.

Passed Away
After a protracted illness, Warren Dutton passed away at his home at Dutton's Landing, Solano county, yesterday at 10:30 o'clock a.m.
Deceased some months ago had a severe paralytic attack from which he never fully rallied, although gastritis was the immediate cause of his death.
Deceased was born in New York State in 1823, and at the time of his death was close on to 80 years of age. He identified himself with this county in 1852. In June 1854 he started a store in connection with John Keys, and afterwards a post office he called Tomales, from which the town took its name.
In 1861, he started business on his own account, and in 1874 sold out, since which he has spent much of his time in San Francisco, Sonoma county, and at his 20,000 acre ranch at Dutton's Landing. On son and a married daughter are left to mourn his loss. He was a kind and sympathetic nature. Many living today will deplore the loss of a true friend.

After Funeral Tragedy
Three carloads of mourners from San Francisco and Marin county attended the funeral of Warren Dutton on a special funeral train. After the burial some of those attending wished to return home, while the majority desired to spend the remainder of the afternoon in West Marin. For that reason the train was split into two sections and one coach was sent back filled with people. An inexperienced driver going at an unsafe speed was to blame for the derailment. The train fell about 10 feet into a ravine. Just about everyone on board sustained injuries, some more serious than others. Two of Mr. Dutton's friends died, including his son's father-in-law, Anton Roman. See Michael Kirk memorial for sketch of wreck.
Mr. Dutton bequeathed his estate valued at one million, to his two children.
brother Dr. George Washington Dutton [6]
