    • Aka: Edward How
Edward was 60 years old when he and wife Elizabeth embarked from England in 1635 on the ship" Truelove".
to America. He probably married his first wife around 1598
and had a daughter at baptized on June 12th 1573 at Lvinghoe, Buckinghamshire, England. There were two wives included in a 29 year span. his second wife Elizabeth Marville Howe were married on October 1st 1632 at Watton-on-Stone,Hertfordshire. Elizabeth accompanied Edward Howe on the "Truelove"and her stepson Jeremiah from his first
wife.?Born about 1575 (aged 60 on 19 September 1635). Magistrate who came to Massachusetts Bay in 1635 on the "Truelove" & settled in Lynn MA. (On 19 September 1635, "Edward Howe," husbandman, aged 60, "Elizabeth Howe," aged 50, "Jeremie Howe," aged 21, "Sara Howe," aged 12, "Ephraim Howe," aged 9, "Isack Howe," aged 7, and "W[illia]m Howe," aged 6, were enrolled at London as passengers for New England). Died [blank] April 1639 (in April 1639, Gov.Winthrop reported that "one Mr. Howe, of Lynn, a godly man, and a deputy of the last General Court, after the court was ended, and he had dined, being in health as he used to be, went to pass over to Charlestown, and, being alone, he was presently after found dead upon the strand, being there (as it seemed) waiting for the boat, which came soon after").
Married by about 1608 Elizabeth _____. "Widow How" died at Lynn on 25 January 1671[/2?]. (Her son Joseph's wife had long before remarried, and all of her other sons had moved elsewhere many years earlier, and there was no other Howe family in town.)
In 1993 John B. Threlfall published an account of this Edward Howe, claiming that he was baptized at Ivinghoe, Buckinghamshire, and lived later at Iver in the same county. The records from Iver fit very nicely and this identification seems likely, but the connection to Ivinghoe is not so clear. Although Threlfall did not attach Daniel Howe to this immigrant, the name Daniel does appear in the Ivinghoe family, and this claim deserves to be researched more extensively.
In 1990 Thomas Cooper stated that "Daniel How was christened at Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire, England, on July 8, 1604.". This is not necessarily at odds with the findings of Threlfall, for Hemel Hempstead is not far from Iver or Ivinghoe, and the baptism of Daniel found by Cooper falls into a period when Threlfall did not find any records for his proposed immigrant.
There were two other men by the name of Edward Howe associated with early New England who should not be confused with the Lynn man. EDWARD HOWE {1633, Watertown} was also a deputy to the General Court, and was of about the same status as the Lynn Edward Howe. (Pope assigns to the Lynn man a record which actually belongs to the widow of the Watertown man.) Another Edward Howe appears frequently in the Winthrop Papers, but he apparently never left London, and maintained his interest in New England from that vantage point. [3]
